INTRODUCTION
Charles Francis Adams wrote, in 1869, a series of papers entitled "Chapters of Erie". In those papers he unveiled the intrigues and manipulations of Jim Fiske, Daniel Drew, and their coterie. From what they did to the finances of the Erie, the road suffered for many years. In fact, it is probably fair to say that it was only in the recent reorganization that the road finally shed itself of the last remnants of the work of these men. Unfortunately, while financially the Erie is now sound, it still has not gained the credit standing it deserves. Such is the long-lasting result of the machinations of that band of brigands.
