A WONDERFUL LATE 18TH OR EARLY 19TH CENTURY HANGING SLANT LID CANDLE OR WALL BOX WITH A DRAWER WITH A FANTASTIC CHIP CARVED AND CUT HEART DECORATED TALL CREST ABOVE A HINGED LID WITH AN OPEN WELL AND A DOVETAILED DRAWER BELOW.
THE ENTIRE PIECE IN NATIVE FLAME GRAINED WALNUT. EARLY HAND WROUGHT NAILS.
PROBABLY PENNSYLVANIA, CIRCA 1780-1820.
A WONDERFUL EARLY HANGING BOX WITH A GREAT CLASSIC LOOK AND A WONDERFUL ALL ORIGINAL HEART CUT TOP CREST. IT ALSO HAS AN EARLY CHIP CARVED DECORATION ON THE TOP AS WELL AND NICE CARVED EARS.
THE SURFACE IS AN OLD DARK STAIN WITH NICE OLD PATINA AND COLOR.
THE ORIGINAL BRASS HINGES ARE STILL INTACT AS IS THE BRASS PULL ON THE DRAWER.
THE WOOD HAS A WONDERFUL FLAME GRAIN THROUGHOUT.
THE DOVETAILS ON THE DRAWER ARE HAND CUT AND STILL TIGHT.
It is 13 1/2" tall to the crest, 8 1/2" across and 6" deep.
Typical wear and tear associated with an item of this age.
There are some minor losses to the side tips of the crest as seen in the photos and a few later nails on the bottom.
