Item Description
This street-level view shows the New York Hilton rising above its broad, ribbed entrance podium on Avenue of the Americas in Midtown Manhattan. The prominent lettering “THE NEW YORK HILTON” is clearly readable above the entrance, where pedestrians gather beneath the modern facade. Two yellow taxicabs and several large mid-1960s sedans and station wagons occupy the street, while contemporary streetlights and neighboring glass-and-steel buildings complete the busy urban scene. The saucer-shaped form visible near the upper-right corner is the head of a suspended streetlamp.

The New York Hilton opened in 1963, making the hotel only about three years old when this photograph was taken in April 1966. Its monumental slab tower and modern entrance complex reflected the large-scale redevelopment of Sixth Avenue during the postwar period. There is no severe fading, heavy scratching, or significant blur, and the principal landmark and street activity remain attractive and presentable. The original cardboard mount shows light age-related wear but remains intact.
