This is a pair of antique COLUMBIA wood dumbbells.

I believe they date from the early 20th century, circa 1910s or 1920s.

They each measure 15 1/2 inches long x 4 3/4 inches wide (39.4 cm, 12 cm).

These dumbbells are a little odd in that they are each marked 5 pounds, but one of them weighs only 3 pounds 8 1/2 ounces and the other a little under 3 lbs. 10 oz. (1.6 cm, 1.638 cm).

I’m wondering if they didn’t simply dry out over the years because this is quite a large difference. This is why my title reads Marked 5 lb. I’m stumped!

They each have age related splits, though they are still very strong and sturdy. There are a few scattered wormholes. There is staining and discoloration along with other general age related wear.
