This outstanding Pair of 19th century Sioux Armbands each have 2, quill covered, stiff hide bands that measure approx 4” in diameter and each feature two thin and delicate, quill wrapped rawhide drops with tin cone danglers and red dyed, horsehair finish. These drops branch and support other rolled tin cone danglers. Affixed to each armband at the point of attachment of the drops there is a small, red cloth “bundle” / pouch that appears to contain seeds and other small items and material. These “bundles” are most definitely original to the Armbands.
The stiff, parfleche rings of these wonderful Eastern Plains Indian Armbands are wrapped with multi colored quillwork as are the thin, rawhide drops.
The Armbands offered here are unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. They are NOT reproductions or modern recreations but original Sioux / Eastern Plains Indian Armbands crafted in the 4th quarter of the 19th century. The Armbands come with our “no questions asked” return privilege and our lifetime guarantee of authenticity. They are guaranteed to be deemed authentic, original and as described by any qualified third party authentication service.
This very rare and very beautiful, Pair of ca1890’s Sioux Indian Quill Decorated Armbands are in very good condition. The stiff hide elements are well preserved and sound. The quillwork is beautiful with some fading to the pigments and with some spots of fraying and minor loss as can be seen in the scans below. Although it is somewhat hard to tell, there may be some loss to the end of one or two of the delicate, rawhide drops but overall the Armbands are well preserved and display beautifully. The cloth of the Medicine Bundles is faded in color and exhibit some wear but both are intact and have never been opened or disturbed. All elements of the Armbands are original and there has been no repairs or restorations - they are 100% original and 100% beautiful.
