Offered here is an 1887 etching by German-American artist Theodore Wust (Frankfurt 1853-Alsace 1915). The etching is a sweet Victorian genre image of a small girl offering a bouquet of flowers. The etching is plate-signed in the lower right and is pencil-signed by the artist below the image to the right.
Per the attribution line in the bottom of the plate, the print was published by Christian Klackner of New York City in 1887. Klackner was a prominent New York publisher who was involved in the Etching Revival and issued Winslow Homer's etchings such as "The Life Line" as well as works by Stephen Parrish.
In addition to genre scenes such as this etching, Wust also created political satires and cartoons similar to those by Thomas Nast.
Both the Mertropolitan Museum of Art and the Harvard Museum of Art have Wust's works in their collections.
The dimensions of the piece, which appears to have full margins, are: height 6 1/8 inches (plate mark) 15 5/8 inches (sheet); width 4 1/2 inches (plate mark) 11 inches (sheet).
