Antique Patented 'Non-Slip' Sterling Silver Thimble English * Circa 1900s This sterling silver thimble is British and is marked "Prov. Pat - Non-Slip". It has indentations right above the rim to prevent the needle from slipping down onto the finger. It has a double band, one smooth and one with daisies. Waffled knurling goes up the sides and daisies are on the top. The band has English sterling silver hallmarks but they were very lightly stamped and not readable. They aren't worn as the thimble is too crisp. They would be Chester 1905-1908. It has a partial maker's mark "A. B. & Co." This patent was registered by Alfred Bromet & Co. They were a wholesale jeweler and the thimbles were actually made for them by Henry Griffith & Sons. It is about
an American size 8 (15.1 mm diameter opening). The condition is
excellent, crisp and in round with no holes, dents or
other damage.
