This is an antique late 19th century Aesthetic Movement silver gilded floral frame.

I would estimate it dates circa 1880s or 1890s.

The overall frame measures 24 5/8 inches x 30 5/8 inches (62.5 cm x 77.8 cm). The back opening size measure measures 22 1/8 inches x 28 1/8 inches (56.2 cm x 71.4 cm). The molding width measures 1 1/2 inches (3.8 cm).

The frame is made of wood and is covered in applied decorative composition. I initially was torn as to whether this was silver paint or gilding, but when you look at the sides you can see many of the lines where the gilding was layed.

Given the large amount of composition, the frame has surprisingly little damage. There are chips in each of the corners. The composition has crackled all around. Some of the areas have darkened over time. Personally, I think it looks great. Everything together gives it a beautiful patina.

There is no glass.

It weighs a little over 2 lbs. 14 oz. (1.312 kg).

It has what I always look for in frames, that wonderful old world look!
