A clean color archive print showing an early Kaman K-MAX in a yellow-and-black paint scheme, photographed in a side-view in-flight profile against a pale sky, with no customer livery visible. This is the aircraft in its earliest promotional form, before it was painted for any specific commercial operator.
An attached printed label on the reverse identifies this as "The Kaman K-MAX" and states: "K-MAX, a new commercial helicopter specifically designed for vertical lift applications, has entered flight testing. FAA certification is anticipated in the latter half of 1993, with first deliveries thereafter." This places the print squarely in the pre-certification marketing window — Kaman had announced the K-MAX as a purpose-built aerial truck for repeated load/unload cycles, and this development-era factory print predates the operator-specific liveries seen on later K-MAX photographs.
Jeffrey C. Evans (1945-2025) was a respected Southern California helicopter historian, researcher, and photographer, and a longtime member of both the Vertical Flight Society and Vertical Aviation International. He co-authored The Bell 47 Helicopter Story. This print was acquired directly from Evans's California estate as part of a larger archive of helicopter photographs, slides, and aviation documents.
