The Manufacturer: "Manufacturas Paucarbamba" was an old-school, prominent exporter and corporate manufacturer of Panama hats operating directly out of the Paucarbamba district in Cuenca.Vintage Indicator: The layout of the font, the "S.A." (Sociedad Anónima/Incorporated), and the 6-digit old format telephone number (842103) indicate this is a genuine vintage souvenir box, likely dating from the mid-to-late 20th century.Cuenca Weaving: Unlike the hats made in the coastal village of Montecristi, hats stamped from Cuenca workshops typically use the tight, uniform Llano or Brisa weave styles. Cuenca became the largest industrial export hub of these hats to supply global trade routes, utilizing these specific balsa or cedar wood sliding boxes for travelers to pack into suitcases without crushing the straw.

** The box is balsa wood and is very soft wood. The right hand corner has some marks in the bottom like pin holes and a gouge mark. The hat inside is in the original rolled position and has never been  enrolled or worn.
