Antique Mauchline Ware Needle Book

Scottish * Circa 1890s

This antique needle book is made of sycamore wood and was probably manufactured by the W. & A. Smith Co. in Mauchline Scotland. The front has an oval photo of "Promenade Morecambe". This is a scenic promenade along Morecambe Bay near Lancaster in the north of England. The interior of the needle book is lined with the original taupe silk. There is a wool needle page in the middle, holding some old pins and needles. Both sides have pockets to hold packets of needles. The front pocket has some "Sheffield Prize" needles.

The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or loss and the varnish is pretty much intact. The linings have no tears, fraying or loss. The back spine is blue velvet.  It measures 2 1/2" high" by 2" wide when closed.
