🖊️ Kan'eitsūhō "Janome" (1736) 🖊️

　Kan'eitsūhō "Janome" is a variety of the Shin Kan'eitsūhō (New Kan'eitsūhō) series minted during the Edo period. It is named "Janome" (literally, "snake's eye") because its exceptionally broad raised rim resembles the concentric-circle pattern of a traditional Japanese snake-eye umbrella.

Main Characteristics of Kan'eitsūhō "Janome"

• Official classification: In-me Kan, Back, Large Broad Rim (陰目寛背大濶縁)

• Date and place of minting: Believed to have been minted from 1736 (Genbun 1) onward at the Fushimi Mint in Kyoto.

• Distinctive features:

o The outer rim is exceptionally broad and prominently raised, creating the appearance of concentric circles surrounding the central square hole and inscription, reminiscent of the pattern of a snake's eye (janome).

o Another defining characteristic is the character 「寛」 (Kan), whose inner "eye" is filled in rather than open, a feature known as in-me ("closed eye").
