Description
You are looking at a very nice 1934C $10 Silver Certificate STAR (Replacement) Note. The Friedberg ID is Fr. 1704* and has the signatures of Julian-Synder. The serial number is *01775177A (*-A block).
This note has been certified by PMG as Choice Very Fine (VF) 35 EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality).
This note faces up well for the grade and is completely original and unmolested - no pinholes, tears, splits, major soiling, foreign substances, teller ink, pencil or ink annotations, etc. It has also avoided any false upgrades over the years by shady dealers trying to improve its appearance, such as pressing, ironing, cleaning, erasing, repairing pinholes or tears, etc. I love the lower-grade PQ notes like this, especially in the VF-35 grade and below — they are true miracles of survival and originality! The VF-35 graded notes, like this one, that have been awarded the coveted EPQ designation, are the perfect intersection of value, eye appeal, and originality!
The best part about this note is that PMG has awarded it the EPQ designation! From the PMG website: PMG uses the designation Exceptional Paper Quality (EPQ) for notes that, in the opinion of PMG graders, are original. By original, we mean that a note has not been physically, chemically, or materially processed to lend the appearance of a higher grade. PMG graders examine the embossing, inks, and overall integrity of each note to make the determination whether it will qualify for EPQ. Notes exhibiting normal wear-and-tear for their respective grades are eligible; normal wear may include factors affecting grade such as counting marks and folds. Notes receiving the EPQ designation must furthermore be unrestored. A restored note has had non-original material added to bring its appearance to a known or assumed state.
Don't fall for the "Super High Grade", "Killer Grade", or "Awesome Grade" uncertified notes being sold on eBay today. You never know what you are going to get with an uncertified (raw) note and what potentially has been done to the note in the past to enhance it's appearance or hide issues that will bring down the grade and the note's value. Pick this note up in a certified TPG (Third-Party Grader) holder and ensure you're purchasing a note worthy of your investment and without hidden issues!
