This listing is for a 1926 Brass Fund Raising Token from the Jewish Sanitarium For Incurables in Brooklyn, New York which was used to help raise money for their new building. The Jewish Sanitarium For Incurables started in the 1920s as The Daughters of Israel – Home for the Incurables but changed their name in May 1926 after electing Max Blumberg as their President a year earlier. It later became the Jewish Chronic Disease Hospital (where the gene for Tay-Sachs disease was discovered) and in 1968 it became Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.
This token measures 1 5/16" across. As can be seen in the photos there are signs of aging.
Obverse: Pictures their building and is captioned "GREAT DRIVE FOR THE INCURABLES YOU HELPED BUILD IT JEWISH SANITARIUM FOR INCURABLES 1926".
Reverse: Pictures an incurable man and is captioned "CONTRIBUTION One Dollar LUCK FOR A BUCK".
