Antique Hydrometer

A good example of a Victorian Hydrometer, used to measure and regulate the alcohol content in drinks. The set comes with its original brass float and all 6 graduated weights (3 believed to be missing). It also comes with a glass beaker and a thermometer although the thermometer is not believed to be original.

The float is engraved with the makers name "SIKES and No.374". The weights are also marked 374.

The whole set comes in its original mahogany box with fitted lined interior. The box has a lovely rich patina and there is an inset plaque in the centre of the lid which reads "SIKES HYDROMETER. Farrow & Jackson Ld. London & Paris".

It is in good condition for its age. There is some general tarnishing on the brasswork and general signs of age and use but no major damages. There are some marks and knocks around the outside of the box but overall it displays well.
Approximate Measurements (box) :

Height : 2" / 5cm

Width : 5" / 13cm

Depth : 4" / 10cm
