This is for a Victorian antique figural needle case clearly advertising the makers W. Avery & Son of Redditch on the base. It is fashioned as a scale weight and has 'Letter Post' on one side along with English postal rates. The design was patented on the 18th March to Avery and it has a Victorian registration lozenge as shown. It has the original ring handle on the top and the four sides are released when the lid is lifted. The inside is designed to hold four packets of needles, it only has one socket inside the other three are missing otherwise it is in good condition with wear to the lettering and floral decorations and some shallow dings in the brass. The base measures 40mm (1.5") square and it stands 50mm (2") tall.
