The Hasselblad 500 EL/M is a professional 6×6 medium format SLR camera designed around the Hasselblad modular system. It uses 120 and 220 roll film with interchangeable film magazines, producing 6×6 cm negatives. Unlike the mechanical 500-series models, the 500 EL/M incorporates an integrated electric motor drive, powered by a rechargeable battery, which automatically advances the film and recocks the shutter after each exposure.
The camera employs the renowned leaf-shutter lens system, providing flash synchronization at all shutter speeds up to 1/500 second when used with compatible Carl Zeiss lenses. Its modular architecture allows interchangeable viewfinders, focusing screens, lenses, and film backs, offering exceptional system flexibility. The body features a robust metal construction and electronically controlled winding mechanism designed for consistent operation in professional applications.
Compatible with a wide range of Carl Zeiss C, CF, CFi, and CFE lenses, the 500 EL/M became widely used in studio, scientific, industrial, and aerospace photography.
