Rare antique mantel top statue of Michelangelo's sculpture of Lorenzo de Medici designed in 1531 for his tomb in the Basilica di San Lorenzo in Florence, Italy.
This large heavyweight statue is cast in dark bronze or a bronzed metal depicting Lorenzo in ornate armor sitting in a contemplative pose atop a black marble architectural pedestal. Just below him is a triangular frieze in a light bronze finish depicting what appears to be quail perched on a branch.
It stands 14" tall by 6" wide by 4.5" deep and weighs almost 9 lbs.
This was probably made as a Grand Tour souvenir in the late 19th century and is in very good condition with no cracks or damage. A masterpiece.
