Genesis – BBC Sessions 1970-1972

Before becoming one of the world's most successful progressive rock bands, Genesis built their reputation through a series of remarkable albums and live performances featuring the classic lineup led by Peter Gabriel.

Throughout the early 1970s, Genesis made numerous appearances on BBC television and radio programs, performing exclusive studio sessions that helped introduce the band to a wider audience. This collection brings together rare BBC recordings from 1970 to 1972, many of which have never previously been available on CD.

The earliest recordings, captured at BBC's Maida Vale Studios in February 1970, feature the lineup responsible for the album Trespass, including original guitarist Anthony Phillips and drummer John Mayhew.

By 1971, Genesis had evolved significantly with the arrival of guitarist Steve Hackett and drummer Phil Collins. The band performed "The Musical Box" from Nursery Cryme at BBC's Kensington House Studios, marking the beginning of what many fans consider the classic Genesis era.

Additional sessions from early 1972 feature material from Nursery Cryme, while the final recordings from September 1972 showcase performances from the forthcoming album Foxtrot, including the legendary "Watcher of the Skies." These broadcasts helped propel Foxtrot to No. 12 on the UK Album Chart and established Genesis as one of the leading bands in progressive rock.

This collection offers a fascinating snapshot of Genesis during their formative years and documents the evolution of one of progressive rock's greatest bands.
