The Panzer III Ausf N — Germany's dedicated close support tank. Where other Panzer III variants carried high-velocity anti-tank guns, the Ausf N took a different path entirely. Fitted with the short 75mm KwK 37 L/24 howitzer originally used in early Panzer IVs, the Ausf N was purpose-built to support infantry assaults and destroy fortifications, bunkers, and soft targets that a standard anti-tank gun could not effectively engage.
The Ausf N served alongside Tiger I heavy tank battalions on the Eastern Front, providing the close support firepower that the Tiger's high-velocity 88mm gun was not optimized for. It is one of the most tactically interesting and visually distinctive variants in the entire Panzer III family — the stubby 75mm gun and full schürzen armor skirts making it immediately recognizable on any tabletop.
