The first jet fighter designed by the aircraft manufacturer Marcel Dassault was also the first French jet fighter to enter series production. The concept and design of the MD450 were the work of engineers Deplant, Cabriere, and Rouault. The prototype completed its maiden flight on February 23, 1949. The first production model took off on December 5, 1951. A total of 350 Ouragans were built; the French Air Force retained 175 aircraft, while the remainder were delivered to Israel and India. The Salvadoran Air Force purchased 18 Ouragans from Israel.
