This 1950 Hudson Custom Commodore Eight Convertible Brougham is a striking and exceptionally scarce early-50s drop-top, loaded with luxury features and showcasing the advanced engineering that made Hudson famous. Debuting on February 10, 1950, the Commodore sat at the top of Hudson's lineup, positioned above the Pacemaker and Super models, and continued the brand's groundbreaking post-war Step-Down design. Vehicle Description

Thanks to its innovative Monobilt unitized body, the 1950 Hudson offered a lower center of gravity, impressive interior space, and a smoother, more controlled ride compared to its contemporaries. Styling updates for 1950 included new trim accents and a distinctive inverted-V grille that set the tone for Hudson's look over the next several years. Inside, the Commodore line showcased some of the most luxurious touches available in American automobiles at the time, including optional leather seating and standard hydraulic power windows-remarkable features for the era. Despite a strong national economy, Hudson remained a small manufacturer, ranking 13th overall in American auto production. Low output makes any 1950 Hudson rare today, but the Commodore Eight Convertible Brougham is among the rarest, with only 424 examples produced-making this car an extremely hard-to-find collector piece. This particular Commodore 8 Convertible has been carefully preserved and enjoyed by a series of dedicated southern collectors. Power comes from Hudson's dependable 254 cubic inch inline-eight, fed by a 2-barrel carburetor and rated at 128 horsepower when new. It's paired with a 3-speed manual transmission with Super-Matic overdrive, shifted via the classic column-mounted "three-on-the-tree" setup. A single exhaust system with a chrome-tipped tailpipe provides the proper vintage note for relaxed cruising. Equipped with an impressive array of options, this Commodore features a black power-operated convertible top that moves smoothly with a dash-mounted switch. When folded down, the top fits neatly beneath a red boot cover for a clean, elegant open-air look. Dual chrome mirrors provide added visibility, while a color-matched external sun visor adds unmistakable 1950s character. The car rides on wide whitewall tires wrapped around red steel wheels with full wheelcovers, giving it a standout stance whether on display or out on the road. Color-matched fender skirts further enhance the classic Hudson silhouette. Finished in gorgeous Laguna Blue, the exterior presents this flagship Hudson exactly as it should be-bold, refined, and unmistakably premium. Inside, the cabin is spacious, luxurious, and beautifully restored. The front and rear bench seats, along with the folding rear armrest, are upholstered in stunning red leather, offering exceptional comfort for both driver and passengers. Woodgrain-trimmed door panels, red carpeting, a Hudson-branded steering wheel, and a matching woodgrain dash all remain in excellent condition, preserving the car's authentic period charm. The interior is extremely well-optioned as well-all four power windows and the power front seat operate via Hudson's hydraulic system, controlled by electric switches. The bright, well-detailed instrument cluster includes a 110-mph speedometer, temperature and fuel gauges, plus indicator lights for amperage and oil pressure. A push-button AM radio, clock, glovebox, and additional factory controls complete the dash layout. Whether you're building a significant Hudson collection or searching for a truly uncommon classic convertible, this 1950 Hudson Custom Commodore Eight Convertible Brougham is an outstanding choice-rare, luxurious, and beautifully presented.
