Set up with win10 ready to go. This has been my on and off project for awhile now but its in good enough state to call it done.
This was very dusty when I got it. After a thorough cleanout I found the fans were rattly, and some of the keys needed to be pressed extra hard to recognize. There was also like zero screws holding this thing together. I put in as many fitting screws as I could, but its still missing some. It at least stays together now haha. The left vents are also broken a little bit, but the internal structure and heatsink are still in perfect working order.
The cpu fan was totally locked up. I went through about 3 other fans before I just shoved a close enough one in place to get the cpu to run cool. Outermost gpu fan can sometimes still make noise if you jostle it around when gaming but it still works. I think adding some lubricant will resolve that. Cpu and gpu are both repasted.
I put on the clevo control center and intel extreme tuning utilities to let you customize the performance how you like, and set the bios to dedicated gpu mode to get the most out of the 75hz screen with gsync. It starts up with low brightness, but just dim and brighten again to get it to full again. If you put hybrid graphics mode back on you'll be limited to 60hz with no gsync but you should get better battery life. Windows health thing says it still has 85% of its battery life left!
After all that, I got this thing pretty rock solid with a 240gb boot ssd and my old 2tb game sshd Seagate drive. It was acting slow on me before, but long formatting and error checking for 8hrs shows no issues, so that's good enough for me haha.
The cpu is the best for its time, the i7 6820hk fully unlocked and overclockable! I haven't tried to see what it can do yet, but just setting this machine up it was incredibly fast and snappy! And the gpu is the once mighty nvidia geforce gtx 980m with 8gb of vram. Testing in forza horizon 5 i found it can be locked at 60fps at 1080p medium without any fsr/dlss or frame gen! You can definitely still game on this machine despite what games require for their 'minimum requirements' lol. This is a fantastic rig!
The original li shin ppwer plug had a right angle tip with a short stem, so any movement could unplug it. So I'm including a different but still compatible upbright one with a much more robust plug for more reliable performance. Should suit it very well.
This unit shows signs of being worked on and still requires a little work to be perfect... but don't we all haha. Listing includes laptop and plug only. If you have any questions just ask! Thanks for looking!
