Slightly more then a year ago, I bought this camera used with the zoom spring broken. When it arrived, the zoom spring was broken but the screen also got cracked (probably during shipping). I decided to keep it since the price difference between what I paid and the cheapest one without any issues was greater than the price of the spare parts. So I bought a replacement spring and a replacement screen, took the camera apart and replaced those but unfortunately when changing out the screen, the screen cable got ripped. So one replacement screen cable poorer, I fixed the camera and got it working. Unfortunately, I then noticed that the EV settings were off (at a setting of 0, the camera treated it as being at +1/3, +1/3 was still treated as +1/3, however +2/3 was treated as +1 and +1 was treated as +4/3 etc..) and the viewfinder attachment on the hot shoe was no longer working with this camera (it was working before I did the the repairs on the spring). For the time, I did not want to open up the camera again, since the EV, spring, and hotshoe were found in the top piece of the camera and to take that off I first would have to take off the back piece of the camera (were the screen is), so I decided to ignore those issues.
Fast forward a year, I have bought myself a MFT mirrorless and decided to sell this camera. Before selling this one, I decided to try and fix the EV and hot shoe issue. I also got my hands on a 550EX Speedlite and while the speedlite is described to work with the G3 not the G3 X, I was curios if it would work with this camera after fixing the the camera's hot shoe. So I took the camera apart, made changes to fix the EV and hot shoe issue, put it together again and tested that everything worked correctly. The EV worked correctly, the viewfinder on the hot shoe now worked, but now the flash no longer worked. So I took the camera apart again (in order to get to the flash, I had to take off the top again which meant taking off the back again), readjust the cables, and choice to test the camera piece by piece as I as putting it completely back together again. First, I pot the top back on, I attached the viewfinder, put in the battery and tested that the top buttons, flash, and viewfinder were working correctly. Everything worked as expected and I turned the camera off.
So then I made the choice to not remove the battery so I can more quickly test the camera's back buttons and screen by reattaching the backs cables without needing to do the steps of removing and putting the camera's battery back in. Unfortunately, this was a mistake because after attaching the cables back in, when I press the power button, the camera no longer turned on. I have tried reattaching all cables for the back and top piece as well as letting the camera sit without a battery for 5 hours. Unfortunately, neither work, the camera does not turn on. I can only guess something was shorted while trying to plug the cables back in.
