An eye appealing and top quality caddy in beautifully selected veneers for restoration.  Cross banded with Partridge wood, ebony and boxwood stringing.  The interior lid is also veneered with blind curl mahogany and strung with boxwood and harewood cross banding.  The containers lift out, are beautifully dovetailed and interchangeable.  So the right hand container will fit in the left side and vice versa and very snugly retaining the original ivory knobs on both lids. The task for the lucky craftsman or woman working on this box is to unscrew the hinges, gently lift the boxwood veneer from the lid edge and the ebony veneer from  the edge of the box then gradually shoot the high edges with a sharp plane so that the lid closes without a smile.  Then to re-glue the same veneers back and replace the lock.  The original baise underneath is present and in good order.  This item has been well cared for and not dropped on the corners and crushed. The sugar bowl is not original. In good condition commensurate with age, use and as per images.
