Les Isles Britanniques ou font Angleterre, Ecosse, Irlande - a very rare, original antique hand-coloured map of the British Isles, published by Reiner and Joshua Ottens in Amsterdam, in c.1720. The second title is at the very top of the map - Magnae Britanniae tabula comprehendens Angliae, Scotiae et Hiberniae regna. The map is a double-sheet from an atlas, in very good and clean condition, with minor age darkening along the central joint, elaborately hand-coloured throughout, original colours are very good, rich and appealing, as shown. Highly detailed and very decorative, with an exquisite title surrounded by Neptune with trident, a putto riding a sea horse, sea monster, fishes, birds etc. The verso is blank. It measures approximately 25 x 21 inches or 63.5 x 53 cm. A very rare item with excellent colouring, a superb map of the British Isles for collectors.
