This carved stone figure from Sierra Leone depicts a seated human form with exaggerated features and a compact, crouched posture, characteristic of traditional “nomoli” figures. Sculpted from dense stone with a naturally weathered surface, it features a rounded head, simplified facial details, and bent limbs drawn closely to the body, giving the piece a grounded and contemplative presence. The texture and patina reflect age and long-term exposure, enhancing its visual depth and authenticity. Associated with ancient West African traditions, Nomoli figures are often believed to represent ancestral or spiritual beings.
