Peter David was asked to create a new Star Trek offshoot.  In 1997, he released 4 small volumes that made up one continuing story.  The New Frontier series is set in a region of space never visited in Trek canon, and deals with characters that are either completely new to the franchise (although Spock and TNG members appear briefly in this one), or were only secondary or tertiary characters on screen. This freedom allowed David unprecedented freedom to tell serialized stories with lasting consequences. Characters could evolve, suffer, and even die, without the need to return to a “status quo” for an upcoming TV episode.  This hardback collects the 4 volumes that made up the first story arc, introducing the world to the captain (Mackenzie Calhoun) and crew of the USS Excalibur.  Book is in VF condition.  Dust jacket is in FN-, due to chipping on upper and lower right corners, small tears at top of spine, some scuffs, scratches on back.  Binding is tight.  Comes from a cigarette-smoke-free home.
