When I got these action figures I was really disturbed by the costumes they used. Three years later Star Wars fans felt the same. So using my limited sewing skill and magazine photos, I took apart the Mego costumes, used them as patterns, and sewed my own. The unsewn remains of all of them are sold elsewhere. I even attempted to replicate the Spaceship patch

This vintage 1974 Astronaut with a custom costume 8" is an original Planet of the Apes Mego figure. It is a collectible item featuring a handmade costume from circa1975. The action figure stands at 8 inches tall and comes with its original helmet. This item is a piece of nostalgia from the Planet of the Apes franchise, specifically of the astronaut character. I guess Heston didn't give his permission for his likeness. But thick sideburns? Oiy! Manufactured in Hong Kong, this original Mego action figure is a much sought after figure by Mego and pLanet oF THE ApES collectors.

The legs want to splay out, but I remember the elastic always being too tight at the hips. There is no damage to the figure and the package is free of major shelf wear except where I cut out the back. Why didn't I use an X-acto knife? Some of the pictures make the suit look yellowed but it is just off-white. Damn camera!

I sold the rest of my Mego collection 30 years ago.

Returns accepted. So why not?
