A vintage Kuchi tribal choker built around one of the most evocative motifs in Afghan decorative tradition. The motif is ancient and deeply charged: the crescent appears across Islamic architecture, textile, and jewelry traditions as a symbol of divine protection, the passage of time, and the shelter of faith. Here it is rendered in vivid glass against the open metalwork ground of the plaque band, visible and legible from a distance.
The dangle structure descends in two tiers. The primary pendants are an elongated shield or oval form, each set with two large faceted round glass stones in red and green with small accent stones around the border. Pakistani rupee coin dangles terminate each strand. Two amber glass cabochon pendants appear at the outer ends, and one blue oval cabochon pendant near center - these read as replacement elements and are noted as such, though they do not significantly disrupt the overall composition.
The lining is black fabric with a stitched channel construction and braided black cord ties with tassel ends at each side for adjustable fit. The ties are about 6" wide.
The Kuchi (also Kochi) are the semi-nomadic Pashtun peoples of Afghanistan and the broader region, renowned for producing some of the most visually dramatic tribal jewelry in the world. Chokers of this form were worn for celebrations, weddings, and important occasions - their weight, color, and movement marking the wearer as adorned and protected. The crescent motif carried particular significance as a symbol of Islamic faith and divine shelter. Coin dangles carried both talismanic significance and practical value as portable wealth, their movement and sound believed to ward off misfortune.
CONDITION Vintage. Shows honest age - oxidation, surface wear, and patina consistent with use. Two amber glass cabochon pendants at outer ends and one blue oval cabochon pendant near center appear to be replacement elements. All other glass stones and coin dangles present and intact.
