A Really Good Set of Tabletop Drawers
This is a really well made, good quality set of drawers / Cabinet with a side bar that looks in the style of a wellington chest.
As you can see from the pictures it has a fantastic style and colour to it.
The drawers graduate in size as they go down, Starting of with an internal depth of 3.9 cm at the top and 6.4 cm at the bottom.
All the drawers have their original turned wooden knows, which is really nice..
It's worth noting that the bottom left seems to have been glued in at some point in time..
( see picture 18 ).
All the knobs are in good order, no cracks chips or such like, and are good and solid in their mounts.
All the drawers are in good order, nice and solid, well fitting and made with dove tailed joints and with little to no wear on the runners..
As such the sit well in the cabinet when closed.
As you can see from the pictures there is a side bar that can be locked to keep the drawers in place and secure.
This has a cover for the lock that sits flush when closed is next to impossible to know where the lock is.
In fact if it wasn't for the fact that we have been selling this sort of thing for many years..
and the fact that it was unlocked when we bought it, it would have been very difficult to work out where and how to open it.
It is fairly large size for a table top set of drawers, Standing at 43 cm High by 55 cm Wide and is some 33 cm Deep.
( Again, all give or take a tad ).
In fact, if you look at the picture of it's base you can see small round holes to the front, sides and rear..
To me these look like round peg holes that would mean it was most likely mounted on a stand or some such like..
As you get cabinets, bible boxes etc sitting on stands.
It's hard to say for sure, but would certainly go hand in hand with the fact that this is such a well made piece.
Anyway, enough waxing lyrical about how wonderful it is..
It is an old piece, Late Victorian, earl Edwardian in age..
and as such it does show signs of use and wear, with some knocks and marks to it..
Again, from the pictures you can see it has a gallery top, the rear section of this has had a couple of knocks, with small bits taken out of it,
See pictures 5 and 6.
Also, the top it's self has some marks to it, things left on top for to long, possible water / liquid stains..
The right side there is some sort of dark patch, a stain or some such like..
When I first saw it I thought maybe it was heat damage..
Sitting next to a lamp or radiator..but the discolouring seems to sit at the surface and doesn't carry round to the rear of the piece as you might expect if it was something more serious..
To the left side there looks to some discolouring due to catching the sun over many years and slightly taking the colour out of the wood.
The last thing to mention, is the lock and key.
All is working, the lock is most definitely the original, and I think so is the key..
As such they both feel a little worn, and when it comes to unlocking it you need to just give it a gentle jiggle at the bottom of the turn..
and it really is just a gentle jiggle and it opens ever time..
Apart from that..as I've already said.. this really is a lovely cabinet / set of drawers, really good quality, really well made, and sill in good order after all these years.
Please study the pictures well to make sure you are happy with what you see..
