Product Description

Legendary UK band Scritti Politti, a key figure in the 1980s music scene, celebrates the reissue of their acclaimed debut album Songs To Remember, now fully remastered.

Originally released in 1982, this influential album returns in stunning remastered form via Rough Trade Records. Widely praised in the UK, Songs To Remember captures the essence of Scritti Politti’s origins. Emerging from the late-1970s DIY indie scene in Camden, London, the band—led by Green Gartside—established themselves as true innovators of the early '80s.

Blending philosophical thought with a budding pop sensibility, their sound was truly one of a kind. Upon its original release, the album was described by NME as “witty and original,” and it has since secured its place as a landmark record in music history.

This reissue features full remastering by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios, under the supervision of Green Gartside himself. The album is also repressed on vinyl for the first time in years, faithfully replicating the original 1982 edition (catalog number ROUGH20), complete with an embossed sleeve and the iconic bee pictogram on the cover.

Originally released in September 1982, the album reached No. 12 on the UK Albums Chart and includes standout tracks such as “The Sweetest Girl,” “Faithless,” and “Jacques Derrida.”

Praised by critics and artists alike, this album is often regarded as one of the most important works bridging pop music and philosophy. Publications such as PopMatters, MOJO, and Q Magazine have highlighted its innovative fusion of lovers rock, intellectual lyricism, and experimental pop structures.
