This product is an 8" hand-carved bird gourd, a traditional folk art item from Peru known as mate burilado.  Technique: The gourd is dried, carved, and decorated using wood-burning (pirograbado) techniques to create intricate patterns.  Origin: This art form originated in the highlands of Central Peru, specifically the Mantaro Valley. These items are often sold as decorative pieces, souvenirs, or shakers/rattles.  This is pre-owned, excellent condition.
