The Canon ZEISS Otus 55mm f/1.4 ZE EF lens is an optic for high sharpness and color accuracy. The fast f/1.4 design excels in difficult lighting conditions and is also well suited for adjusting depth of field to isolate subject matter using selective focus. A Distagon optical concept is used to promote edge-to-edge sharpness and low-field curvature, and, through the use of low-dispersion and aspherical elements, this lens also achieves correct image quality without voids of aberrations, fringing, and color distortion. A system of floating elements is also used, for consistent performance across all focus and aperture ranges, to achieve uniform sharpness and clarity.
An aspherical element controls distortion and spherical aberrations to produce greater sharpness and more accurate rendering.
ZEISS T* anti-reflection coating has been applied to each lens surface to minimize reflections and provide greater contrast and color fidelity.
The floating element system helps maintain consistent image quality across the entire focus range, from 1.6' to infinity.
The manual focus design benefits from focus and depth of field scales, which are filled with a high-visibility yellow paint, along with hard stops at both the infinity and minimum focus positions.
