The antique CASE ONLY- is a vintage Essex 14k Gold-Filled Full Hunter Case with no crystal and a dustcover, featuring a unique leaf/ floral "Mascot" design. This dress/formal pocket watch case from the late 19th to early 20th century is a part of a historical collection, with a monogram and dating ,added later in 1912. The case, made in the United States by Essex watch Case Co. after it was bought-out by COURVOISIER-WILCOX co., showcases intricate floral and leaf patterns and is a rare find for collectors of vintage watches and accessories.
I believe that from the opening of the Essex Watch Co. in 1884, until its sale ca. 1905 , the “Mascot” brand was referred to as a gold plated case, but was redone and remarketed after their sale, to the 14k Gold Filled model “Mascot” which is what I believe this to be (in order to meet then current style demands.
SELLER NOTE: From the late 19th century, to the early 20th century, watch cases were normally purchased separately from the mechanism, and was assembled by the local watch-maker /seller. Gold-filled cases became the desirable standard, in demand.
NOTE:     No watch mechanism is included with this case. Returns are not accepted for this parts offering of case only.
