A beautiful early 20th Century French fireman’s helmet, finely crafted
and impressively heavy. The helmet is formed from a reflective
silver-tone metal, richly decorated with applied bronze overlays
including the crest of the Sapeurs-Pompiers de Deux-Sèvres (Firefighters
of Deux-Sèvres). These helmets were part of the iconic uniform worn by
French firefighters in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, designed
not only to provide protection but also to convey honor and civic pride.
The ornate front plate featuring laurel and oak leaves and the regional
insignia reflects both the heritage of French firefighting brigades and
the prestige of their role in the community.
Measuring 12 inches
deep, 8.5 inches wide, and 5.5 inches high, it retains its original
inner leather strap work, a rare survival that adds greatly to its
authenticity. Good antique condition with signs of wear and use. Please
review the photos for further condition assessment.
