This exquisite piece of hand spun and hand woven Edo era (c.1850) cotton fabric features a central mon (family crest) design created using the tradional tsutsugaki dyeing technique. Tsutsugaki involves hand drawing patterns with resist paste, resulting in intricated and vivid designs. This 4 panel fabric re=ndered in indiqo hues was once a kakebut0on (a kind of bedspread). . With the exception of some very skillful repairs (see pictures 5 - 13) it remains overall in very good condition. This is a nice thick cotton hand spun and hand woven indigo 47" by 53" (122 x 138 cm )
