History of ... Bovet.... There is nothing Britain possesses,”
wrote the Emperor Quianlong to King George III, “that the
Celestial Empire can possibly need.” Except for one thing. Watches
were the only foreign products that interested the Chinese
elite. Quianlong himself had a sizeable collection. While
Britain resorted to gunboats and opium to force the Chinese
market to open, it was a Swiss businessman who found the key.
21-year-old Edouard Bovet arrived in Canton in 1818 and almost
immediately sold four watches for 10,000 francs — about a million
US dollars today. Edouard Bovet decided to stay in Canton,
establishing a watchmaking dynasty that lasted 80 years. Very soon
in China, “Bo Wei” became synonymous for a watch. In the
currency turmoil of late Manchu China, BOVET watches spread
throughout the country as a medium of exchange....
The featured
watch is a Swiss made Bovet Virtuoso III Tourbillon AIQPR003-15
crafted exceptional finished 18k Rose Gold round shaped case measuring
46mm diameter. Fixed 18k Rose Gold bezel unique, single bow shape
top and lower lugs are subtly integrated as sapphire cabochons set into
the sides of the lugs structure. Manual Winding movement, power
reserve up to ± 120 hours (5 days) with a single barrel. . Displays a
Skeleton/ Black lacquer center dial/ bridges and plates are fully
hand-engraved with the Fleurisanne pattern design with Arabic and
applied Rose Gold Roman numerals, Breguet Rose Gold hands, Perpetual
Calendar: a reversed hand-fitting, that enables the time to be
displayed on both sides of the case. Features a retrograde date, day
and month (displayed on transparent discs), and a leap year indicator,
seconds on the flying tourbillon. Sapphire set crown top of case,
