Obverse: Star w/ large surrounding circle - WELL STRUCK, FULL & WELL-CENTERED; The star was a common symbol in the Ancient Near East that could represent the heavens or counting the seasons.

​Reverse:  Anchor w/ surrounding dotted solid circle and visible inscription - DECENTLY STRUCK, MOSTLY-FULL, AND DECENTLY-CENTERED; The anchor symbol was used to commemorate Alexander Jannaeus' conquest of the coastal plain, expanding the Hasmonean territory to the Mediterranean Sea.


A very nice Biblical Widow's Mite, minted under Alexander Jannaeus, with nice great eye appeal--harder to find on a Judaean Prutah.  The visible Hebrew inscription on the reverse, not often seen on lower-end Widow's Mites, really adds to the eye appeal.  Definitely a nice Widow's Mite.
