We are delighted to offer our antique folk art lovers this handsome all original Victorian cow horn beaker. If you have the initials J.H, this is the antique for you. What is lovely is that this small Victorian naively carved horn beaker does not depict a hunting scene, instead we see the initials J.H with date 1887 set within a swagged two branch cartouche. To the right of this cartouche is an ale jug, to the left a tall palm looking tree. Indicating to us that this is a sailor made scrimshaw beaker carved during down time on board ship, the ships voyage being to the tropical islands. The natural texture and colour variations are beautiful, especially when held to the light. This small beaker would have been used as a drinking vessel aboard ship, the owner reminded of his loved one with initials J.H

A superb item of 19th century scrimshaw.
