Dr. Edrita Fried was a psychoanalyst and senior supervisor and training analyst at the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health in Manhattan and director of the center's Performing Arts Counseling Service.


Dr. Fried wrote and lectured widely and was the author of, among other works, ''The Ego in Love and Sexuality,'' ''Active/Passive: The Crucial Psychological Dimension'' and ''The Courage to Change.'' She was also the editor of ''Artistic Productivity and Mental Health.''


Dr. Fried came to the United States in 1938 after receiving her Ph.D. at the University of Vienna in her native city. She was a founder of the Montreal Psychoanalytic Association and later was an associate professor of psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and at New York Medical College. Since 1978, she had been on the guest faculty of the New York University Medical Center.
