I've used many minidsp products over the years and they have all met or exceeded my expectations in build quality and sound quality. This is the best way to add Dirac Live room correction to a serious two channel audio setup since it's all digital and you're not stuck with an internal DAC and output stage that would limit your system. You will need one or two dacs after this unit. Make sure you understand how this will integrate into your system since you will need to use it as a digital preamp for volume control when using all 4 channels output such as when doing a digital crossover for main speakers with one or two subwoofers. I paid $900 in February 2025 and got stuck with $150 in tariffs so I paid almost $1200 for this unit with taxes and shipping. Consider that if you were to buy something from minidsp today, you could be on the hook for hundreds in tariffs. I'm moving away from room correction software and more toward room treatments and vinyl these days so I'm ready to sell this.
The miniDSP SHD Studio is a highly capable all-digital audio processor and network streamer designed for serious 2-channel and subwoofer integration setups. The SHD Studio combines Dirac Live room correction, powerful onboard DSP processing, and network streaming in one compact unit. It is an all-digital design with digital inputs including USB Audio, AES/EBU, SPDIF, and optical, plus digital outputs on SPDIF RCA and AES/EBU XLR. It also uses a 450MHz Analog Devices SHARC DSP processor and supports Roon Ready and Volumio streaming.
This is a great choice for anyone wanting to improve system performance with room correction, digital crossover capability, EQ, and flexible routing without adding unnecessary analog stages. miniDSP’s SHD Studio platform is especially popular for stereo systems, subwoofer integration, active speaker setups, and digital front-end optimization. miniDSP states that the platform includes Dirac Live room correction and its DSP toolbox for tasks such as parametric EQ, crossovers, and system tuning.
