He was an aesthetic revolutionary who transcended his era—fusing an aesthetic sense with appreciation of nature, expressed in physical forms such as tea houses and Raku ware tea bowls. his 58 years became a honored tea master for Oda Nobunaga and later Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Imperial Regent of Japan.
