Vintage KO Volkswagen Beetle Battery Powered Toy Made In Japan

I found this in some things that my father brought home after his service in the Vietnam war.
He was a Beetle fanatic and owned several over the years.

It has a green exterior but when looking up through the wheel wells appears to be red underneath.
I'm not sure if somebody in the past attempted to repaint it green or if this is just the way it originally was.

It doesn't appear to have every had any batteries installed in it. I'm not sure if "modern" batteries would be
compatible with it so I haven't tried it.

The detailed paint work on the interior looks wonderful.

I didn't find a box or any other documentation with it.

Would be nice to know a Beetle or tin car collector was enjoying it instead of it collecting dust.
