Original photograph by Kohji Ishiwata, staff photographer for Ships of the World (世界の艦船, Sekai no Kansen), Japan's premier naval photography journal, bearing the publication's credit stamp on reverse. Depicts JDS Takanami (DD-110) of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force underway, crew manning the rails with the Rising Sun naval ensign flying at stern. The ship's name たかなみ (Takanami) and hull number 110 are clearly painted on the hull. Reverse annotated "Takanami" in a previous collector's hand, consistent with the hull identification. JDS Takanami was one of seven Ayanami-class destroyers built for the JMSDF in the late 1950s, named in honor of the IJN Takanami, a Yūgumo-class destroyer lost in action at the Battle of Tassafaronga in 1942. Original continuous-tone photographic print, approximately 3.75 x 5 inches. Stored in acid-free sleeve and toploader.
