Original photograph by Kohji Ishiwata, staff photographer for Ships of the World (世界の艦船, Sekai no Kansen), Japan's premier naval photography journal, bearing the publication's credit stamp on reverse. Depicts JDS Shimanami (DD-106) of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force underway, crew manning the rails with the Rising Sun naval ensign flying at stern. The ship's name しまなみ (Shimanami) and hull number 106 are clearly painted on the hull. Reverse also bears a previous collector's pencil annotation "Shikinami" — this appears to be a misreading of the Japanese hiragana, as the hull identification is unambiguous. Original continuous-tone photographic print, approximately 3.75 x 5 inches. Stored in acid-free sleeve and toploader.
