Converse, a very successful steel manufacturer turned financier and then president of Liberty National Bank, was chosen to serve as Bankers Trust's first president.Bankers Trust opened its doors at 143 Liberty Street on March 30, 1903. Within three months it had deposits totaling $5.75 million; within four months it had outgrown its original premises and moved to Wall Street.In 1965, with the intention of expanding beyond New York City, the Bankers Trust Company created a bank holding company, the Bankers Trust New York Corporation, which controlled several banks in the state of New York, including the Bankers Trust Company.It had subsidiary banks in Great Britain, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the Federal Republic of Germany, Luxembourg, Liberia, Nigeria, Tunisia, Cameroon, Senegal, the People’s Republic of the Congo (Zaire), Ivory Coast, Argentina, Colombia, the Philippines, and Taiwan and had representatives in Mexico City, Rome, Paris, Frankfurt, Manila, Sydney, Beirut, Zurich, Tokyo, and other cities.In 1999 Deutsche Bank completed its acquisition of Bankers Trust.
