"Speech of Daniel Webster on the Subject of Public Lands etc. Delivered In the Senate of the United States, January 1830." This speech, superficially on public lands, was made in response to comments made by Senator Robert Hayne of South Carolina and was the opening blow of one of the most important verbal contests in American history.
In those debates, Webster and Hayne profoundly disagreed on the nature of the American Union. For example, Hayne maintained states could nullify federal law while Webster saw that as a political absurdity. This conflict between national and state sovereignty led directly to the civil war, with the pro-slavery firebrands of South Carolina lighting the way.
The booklet measures about 5" x 8" and has 28 pages. Fair Condition as shown. Soiled and stained from age. The speech has been removed from a larger volume, as shown by the left margin. The paper is still supple, not brittle, and the speech can be read without fear. The last (blank) page has separated. It displays really well.
An important piece of history and a superb addition to any collection. I ship every day the post office is open with your item safely packed. I always combine shipping and will refund back the extra on multiple item purchases.
