This is a nice example
of an Exemplification of Recovery document from the reign of Charles 2nd.
Pendant Great Seal
(some loss but largely complete).
Dated 17 June in the
nineteenth year of the reign of King Charles 2nd.
I have dated it to 1679
as this is the latest it can be. However, it could be earlier (1668) as the
reign of Charles 2nd was often counted as beginning in 1649.
Beautiful calligraphic handwriting.
I cannot read the
document.
Helpfully, there is a
small handwritten English addition on the reverse: “Exemplification of the
house at Dorchester.”
CONDITION. Contents complete. One small hole to lower left margin - contents not affected. Otherwise no holes or tears. Old fold lines. Slight creasing to lower right margin. Ink generally clear and free of fading. Good clean condition for a document of this age and type. Top part of the seal lacking.
