Beautiful and historically significant 18th-century hand-colored engraving titled “Vue de la Mosquée et de la Fontaine de Top-Hana” (View of the Mosque and Fountain of Tophane), depicting the vibrant waterfront district of Tophane in Istanbul during the Ottoman Empire.


This original copperplate engraving was drawn by Jean-Baptiste Hilair (1753–1822) and published in Ch. Gouffier’s acclaimed travel series Voyage Pittoresque, printed in Paris between 1782–1822. Guaranteed to be over 200 years old, as verified by Galeri Alfa (Istanbul), which specializes in antique maps and prints. The hand-coloring remains vibrant, with wonderful detail in the mosque, minaret, boats, and daily life along the Bosphorus.

This original print is guaranteed to be 211 years old (dated to 1782), as certified by Galeri Alfa, a respected antique print and map dealer based in Istanbul.


This beautiful piece does have some age and wear. There looks to be a little bit of rippling in the engraving,frame is mostly good with minor scuffs and scratches. The paper piece on the back is coming loose in several places please see all very detailed photos. Amazing piece!
